With the upcoming Core Wars Tournament looming, a small cartoon is in order!
Core Wars is a programming game where programs called warriors face off in an epic battle to crash each other.
The programs themselves are written in an assembly like language called redcode and are executed in a virtual block of memory called the 'core'.
Many tactics have now been developed, these include scanners, replicators and bombers, but the first warrior ever created was the single instruction 'imp'. The instruction (MOV 0, 1) copies itself into the memory that is about to be executed. Which then copies itself into the memory that is about to be executed, and so on. It will gradualy work its way though the entire core and overwrite it.
